HOW TO: Turn Greddy Full Auto TT red to make lighting

First off, as this is first "How To" I've posted I do not have any photos at this time will work on getting some, moving on.......

READ ENTIRE "HOW TO" BEFORE STARTING AND I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOUR TURBO TIMER IS DAMAGED WHILE PERFORMING THIS.

1. Disassemble your Greddy Full Auto Tubro Timer and disconnect the daughter board from the main motherboard. NOTE: be careful when taking the face off the TT the silver buttons can fall out and be a pain to find.

- Looking at the daughterboard with the LCD screen there are 3 blue LEDs on the top of the board, and 4 LEDs in 2 pairs on either side of the LCD.

2. Gently push the LCD away from the board until it is about 90 degrees to the board, the plastic defuser can be removed by gently pulling on it (the adhesive is pretty easy to pull from the board).

3. The LEDs will now be fully exposed, using your soldering iron start to remove the LEDs by putting the point of a knife just under the emitter of the LED and heat the contact at the end, the LED will pop up and the other end can then be heated and the LED removed.

4. After removing all the red LEDs the blue LEDs can easily be removed using the same technique (make sure not the get them mixed up)

5. Now replace where the blue LEDs were with the red one.... LEDs only operate with the D/C voltage being applied in one direction (hence Light Emitting Diode)...... printed on the board next to where the LEDs were connected you will see the symbol for the diode that looks like an arrow pointing at a perpendicular line. When reattaching the LEDs make sure the arrow on the edge of the LED points towards the arrow printed on the board, this will ensure the the LEDs are in the right direction.

6. Once you have the 3 red LEDs soldered back on the board (you will have 1 left over)... attach the blue LEDs to the sides. Any configuration will work as far as placement. I only put 2 back on the board in the lower position and left the other 2 empty, there is no problem with the blue being too dim.

7. To get the LCD back in position carefully push it back down against the board. Push until the LCD comes in contact with the board then allow it to spring back up enough to slide the defuser under it.

8. Reattach the daughterboard to the motherboard and reassemble turbo timer back in it shell.

- If all went well when you turn it on it should now be back lit red with a blue flash for the alarm test and look great with the rest of your red lighting. GOOD LUCK if you try this and remember to take your time and be patient.

I think my Greddy TT has an option to just change the backlight to red. I found it in the manual once and ran it like that for a few days.

I have it apart and we make led strips for undermount lighting for counter tops... so i got a bunch that are not side post like these, the reason I ask is because I want to change it to white led... I'll try it out and ill post my results Ive had this thing in a box sitting around for ages, havent used it since I sold my wrx 6 years ago, always believed in the "Evo doesnt need a turbo timer hype" But if I can mess around with it might as well.
