Oil Preasure Gauge Install & Break Down
Oil Preasure Gauge Install & Break Down
OK I read a post here that there is allot of confusion on oil Pressure units. I have got the AEM Oil Pressure and this is what I have figured out for those who are confused.
Tapping the Head for the Oil Pressure is the best if you have a 1/8th sensor like the AEM comes with. The Only issue is that the Sender Unit is 1/8 BSPT and the Evo's head is 1/8th NPT. The fix is Auto meter's Adapter Part Number 2269 which is 1/8 NPT male to 1/8 BSPT Female to fit the sender unit. Now For some reason Auto meter does not sell directly at least I did not see a buy now tab so you have to goto a vendor Direct and in my case Advance Auto is a vendor. Now you can tap the Blank plugs above the Oil filter itself and the Plugs are a 6mm hex and are a pita to get off.
If you want to tap there its OK you need 3/8 NPT to 1/8 BSPT and the vendor that sells the adapter is 42 draft designs here http://store.42draftdesigns.com/Lanc...ptor_p_53.html . There are other places that sell the kits but these are for budget minded people and ones that don't want a high cost. I got the Auto Meter 1/8 NPT to 1/8 BSPT for 12.60 after taxes with Advanced and then depending on shipping its 16.00+ for 42 drafts setup. With the 42 Draft Designs adapter it has a 45 degree Elbow to allow room to install without issues. There are mixed reviews on where to tap some say the head reads lower but will give you a faster sign if you lose pressure and some say the area above the Oil Filter reads higher and wont be as safe per say.
Now for ease of installation the head was the best spot IMO. I went all out and modified the Bracket you have to remove which has 2 10mm for the Throttle cable Bracket and Fuel injector Harness and 1 14mm for the Intake mani and 2 12mm bolts. When I modified my Bracket I cut out a rectangle around the 14mm and I cut the 10mm that was holding a harness down which is not listed in the bolts removed since I snipped the clip there anyway and if you unsnap the harness you don't have to take the bolt off. I did this so I could retain the Throttle cable bracket and the injector Harness Clip as well. If you have any questions on this or want pictures for reference send me a PM or a Email and I will help as soon as I am free.

Another easy place to put it is the oil pump housing. In one of the two high pressure feed bolts, just remove it and tap it out for the 1/8 BSPT. That way it is all under the car and hidden (in my case protected by the Beatrush undertray) and you get the pressure directly after the oil pump. Easy, and it is really just a simple drill and tap.
No sweat.
