Do you need large allen wrench to loosen transmission fill and drain plug?

Thats for the 6 speed only. The 5 speed uses a regular 6 point socket. 17 for the fill and 24 for the drain.

sorry to bump an old thread, but I tried putting in 3qts in my tranny and I wasn't able to get all of it in there. The car was level on 4 jackstands and I have about 1/2" left in the bottom of the AMSOIL quart container... Is that alright?

Yes, the 5-speed won't take all of the 3rd qt.

Good bump, saved me some searching time. Just ordered 3qts of Amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90.

it's truely 2.9qts, but I think alot of people just say 3qts to make it easy, but you should have a little bit left over obviously. Just keep the car level and fill until it starts coming back out of the fill hole

Outdated thread but if anyone ever looks... 3 Qts, stick with the stock DiaQueen. I've heard good things about Amsoil as well, but with every car I stay with the OEM fluid or the OEM Synthetic fluid. Have always had the best results when using stock fluid in both the Evo and Subarus.
