DIY Underpanel

When I bought my car it unfortunately didn't come with the stock plastic under panels. After reading it sounds like this was actually good as the stock one is a PITA to get off and on. So I picked up a sheet of aluminum and decided to make my own. After many, many hours of mock-up, I came up with a design I like and had a few questions and maybe some input.

First question is I have noticed on the Beatrush model it has the rubber pieces that mount in front of the wheels, what benefit does this provide? Would it be beneficial to incorporate these into the panel?

Second question is my car also didn't come with a front license plate mount and I don't need to give The Man any reason to pull me over. There is a screw in the bumper I could use but I want something cleaner looking. I noticed there is a small panel on the pass side of the front lip, not sure what its for, and mine is missing anyways. I wanted to extend the under panel in just that area far enough to mount my plate to that side. Has anyone seen this done, and more important, are there laws as to which side of the car it should be on if its not in the center?

Thanks for the input!

Nice to see you thinking outside the box As far as the front plate I have never herd of a law on which side it should be on or being in the middle. All they care is that there is one there and that you can see it

I finally got everything installed and got my plates on. It almost makes the car look lower with the front plate on, I wish. For my first metal fab job I feel I did pretty well. I think it took me around 5 hours and I'm sure it would have gone quicker if I had all the right tools. The aluminum I got for a steal at $40 it was 3' x 7' and I had to buy a few metal cut off wheels that were only $6 at Harbor Freight.

One thing I recommend for all owners that hate the plastic clips holding the factory under tray on, is to buy the fasteners I used for this. They clip onto the plastic tabs coming out of the front lip and hold secure. You now have your choice of what type of bolt to use. I chose a pan head allen bolt but you can use screws also. They were less than $10 at Ace Hardware and I can use a ratchet to take them on and off. A life saver!

looks good! ive been thinking of tackling this one day.
you should find out about your local law. in my town if i bent my lincese plate i would probally be arrested for defacing gov't property or something. but i know its a law that the entire plate has to be shown here got a ticket for the frame covering new jersey.

Ah I didn't think about the bent plate. I've seen a few cars in my area that have both the top and bottom bent so only the numbers are showing. Not that what they do makes it legal but worth checking into. Thanks

Looks awesome and I've wanted to do this for a while but, like you, lack experience and tools. Maybe someday.

What was the thought/ strategy behind the "lips" on the back edges? Debris management? Airflow? JW.
