Hey guys,
I know this is an old topic but i need to inquire a few things. What happens to the stock ignitor? Do i remove it or do i still need it. This diagram, does it apply to 2G /EVO III as well?

You will be able to remove the 2 stock coils setup (and you should, because there won't be anymore space for them anyway)
This diagram applies to pretty much every car that has a 2 coil wasted spark setup, but for wire colors I'm not positive they will be the same with your older ECU. Try to source the coil wiring schematics on your specific application, and transpose the colors on my diagram.

did your coils sit a little high off of the plug? doesn't fit snug when the mounting plate is added? I test fitted my 9 with scion xa coils and they sit snug when they're below where the mounting plate would be mounted.

I ran mine for years of auto-x under the stock cover with no plate and no problems. Then I chased intermittent spark issues for over a year which was only solved by buying new extended springs and mounting the coils on the plate. I thought it was coils, coil springs, plugs, and the COP wiring and kept chasing my tail (I don't really have a tail) until the only thing I could do was buy the plate and get rid of my spark plug cover. The issue has not resurfaced since so that's how they're going to stay.

I didn't have any issues for 4 years (about 60k miles). They can still bolt on the valve cover with that stock screw right ? If wiring is tight and welded good, I think you're fine. But of course getting a good plate might be a good idea if you do track/auto-x or quarter mile. I didn't do any of that with mine.

thanks. I will try to bolt them onto the v/c and cover it with the original cover. if all else fails, i'll make a plate and stretch the coils.

Better stick with coils that has known OEM-like dwell time.
If you don't know this parameter for 350z ones they could misfire,
or burn if their dwell time specification is longer, or shorter.
Also, physically they look too big to fit under the stock cover (not a big problem)
You can get 4 yaris coils from junkyard for under 100$ with pigtails.
