Mitsu did not release any special information regarding servicing the transfer cases, if there was an issue they were replaced. The 2 I Frankenstein'd together coincidentally had the same shims on the pinion which wasn't surprising.

I think it's a mixture of trial and error and also am understanding of how ring and pinion work for the shops that are doing the rebuilds but since that info isn't public knowledge it's held close to the vest to be able to attract business

That's true. All information how to build t case are held close. Year ago I broke t case and I decided to rebuild it myself. I purchased ring pinion and all bearings. Shims were made by friend of mine that is working as machinist. I build my first t case and so far holding great for over year on 750whp evo and around 50-60 launches. Now I rebuild second t case as a spare with wavetrac and new ring pinion and as soon as I pull out the current one I will open to inspect it.

were you able to source new shims for it? I bought the last two sets of MB185360 in the U.s with the impression that the would fit but the I.D and O.D are different . i still need to source a shim set for mine... now it is possible that the cp9a vs ct9a uses different shims . my I.D is 1.19in. O.D 1.41 .. the ones i received with MB185360 I.D is 1.0in.. O.D 1.27in.. any chance you could measure yours or share where you found your replacements

Look like MB185360 are shims for rear differential. I was not able to locate any shims for t case and I had to make my own when I was building t case.

If you have a good oem tcase, is there anything that can be done to keep the ring and pinion live longer? Can it be shimmed tighter? Do the oem shims get crushed from launching hard? If so can I just replace the oem shims with stronger shims?
