Helix High Flow Cat - Just Released

Helix Power has just released their high-flow metal substrate catalytic converter downpipe for the Mitsubishi Evolution 8. We air-freighted in 10pcs for those that are interested. Supply is VERY limited. Order yours today J

This particular high-flow cat incorporates a 200 cell Metal-Substrate high-flow catalytic converter and thermal barrier heat-shield. The 200 cell Metal-Substrate downpipe has been tested by us to yield 7-10whp over the factory cat, while able to pass stringent California smog standards. The thermal barrier heat-shield assists in rapid warm-up of the cat for maximum efficiency and helps to keep exhaust gas velocities high.

Nice piece, but it took way to long to come out. Does it have both 3" inlet and outlets?

What size piping is that? Will it work w/ an HKS downpipe and hi-power cat-back?

Hey guys,

Sorry for the delayed response, we were busy moving into our new 7500sqft building (Mustang AWD Dyno due in any day!!)

Regarding the Helix High-flow cat

Atos_152 - The high flow cat is a 200 cell cat. The diameter is slightly larger than 4.5" as it is custom made with a sealed thermal barrier (basically a twin heat shield) wrapped around it.

Leif - california VC is a little bit unclear in this area. You are basically not allowed to change your cat for *I believe* 4 years, unless it needs replacement, so I guess it would be up to you to "inform" the officer how you "broke" your OEM cat.

lil'evil evo - It is full 3" inlet/outlets

Mrbubbler - Unfortunately no, however you can ask a muffler shop to cut and modify for you

Marksae - Yes, fully compatible!

Cheers,

Gary

Guess too much flow to prevent the CEL? Just got my Helix TBE, so I'm very interested in this.

How does one know that it will pass emission tests? I know the other cats can't prove this. Which is why I am sticking with stock, until it comes time for inspections and see how people are doing.

What about the nasty CEL lite??? I heard most, if not all high flow cats trip the CEL. I don't want to do the O2 simulater splice, so stock cat for me for now.

I wouldn't count on high flow cats to pass emissions. I've had two fail on me before. I don't think the universal high flow cats are meant to last long on turbo cars. I had one 3" catco and one 3" carsound cat fail on me after a lot of abuse on my 1g and 2g DSMs. Abuse meaning 18-20psi of boost daily on a Forced Performance Green turbo. By fail I mean not being able to pass emissions.

The higher flow cats are usually lighter than the OEM units, which means it dissipates heat quicker. From my own personal experience, high flow cats need to be heated up a lot in order for them to work effectively. The OEMs don't.

The reason why I'd get a high flow cat is to preserve my stocker. I'm afraid I'm going to kill the stocker by driving hard all the time. I'd drive around w/ the high flow all the time, and slap the stocker back in come smog time. As long as the high flow cat keeps what comes out of my tailpipe clean enough not for cops to smell me from behind, I'll be happy.
