Actually the fastest car of the day was the orange Evo with the Varis decal. Driven by workshop owner with fairly good driving skills, handtimed to be about 2'35". No transponders cos they were loaned out to another circuit. I could keep up with the bronze Evo in the corners when I was still stock (230 whp) but he had too much of a power advantage in the straights... lost him after 2 laps.

As a frame of reference for laptimes on Sepang:
Stock Evo by driver with no track experience, about 2'55"
Stock Evo by weekend-club driver, about 2'47"
Moderately modified DC5s by weekend-club driver, about 2'45" (yes they're pretty fast)
Stock Evo by professional driver, about 2'40"
M3 CSL... around 2'35"
Porsche GT3 on semi-slicks... around 2'32". A former F2000 driver was timed to run 2'28" in a GT3 (not his car).
JGTC 500 Amprex Lamborghini Murcielago (around 500 bhp).... 2'09"
MotoGP bikes.... around 1'50"
Formula 1.... around 1'30"

HTH.

Well... practice makes perfect... considering it's your first time there, would say that it's a decent timing.
