?s for those with powdercoated stock wheels

Where did you guys get your stock wheels powdercoated? How long did it take? How much did it cost? and most important of all, did you guys have spare wheels lying around or did your evo had to sit on jackstands for days until the wheels came back powdercoated?

The last question is a dilemma for me since I can't afford to get another set of rims as spares and I need to use my car everyday, so I dunno what to do

Painting Wheels

I had my ZR-1's powdercoated on my GMC Typhoon and it cost $300.00 for sandblasting and painting.

I just painted my stock rims with the Duplicolor wheel paint "Graphite", also a light clearcoat was applied. Preparation is the key, I spent alot of time cleaning the rims up, used a scotchbright pad to lightly scuff them up, then applied 5 coats of paint and then several coats of clearcoat. They turned out awesome, the installer did not scratch them when installing my new Falken Azenis Sports, so the paint is pretty tough.

I would say to leave a full day for painting the rims and having the tires re-installed.

sweet! but I can't even afford a day to have the tires off and then having to remount them again at the shop, so can I just leave em on and cover them up with tape and index cards while I just prep+paint the rims?

Duplicolor seems to work pretty well from what I have seen

You can get away with it, make sure you clean the wheels and scuff up the paint with a scotchbright pad, like I said, preparation is the key.

I'll host them. send the pics to chad@chadsevo.com

oh, and I would recomend having the tires removed from the wheels. I was talking to a friend of mine and he's a painter. he told me that the chemicals from the tires will soak into the metal of the wheel and can cause the paint to not stick well. he said it's definately worth the extra money to have them dismounted, painted, then remounted for a good and clean job.

preparation is definitely the key

my car was down about 2 hours total (being generous)

clean the wheels VERY good. Sand the wheels to scuff up the paint. I sanded it with two levels of sand paper.

Mask the tires. 4 layers of paint 4 layers of clear.

tada! hardly no down time

Can some of you people post pictures of the results you're getting? I can't decide weither or not to powdercoat, paint or get some new wheels.

I'd like some pics, too... and how much do you think it would cost to powdercoat white if I did it myself (if that's possible)?
