8's in the doors are for midbass, I'm fabricating fiberglas kickpanels this weekend.
the 8's/dynamat added 4lbs, the seat belts I pulled out took off around 10lbs, and the amp/sub/enclosure will probably balance out with the weight of the spare tire/jack that i pulled out. sure it'd be nice to have a sub-3klbs car. but I drive 25k miles a year. it's all about balance of needs...
for those knockin 8's in the doors... i don't expect you to understand.
those who have heard a well setup front stage...know what i'm talking about

I had the whole diamond 6 1/2" with horn tweeters and subs in the trunk in my last car. Sounded great, but even at twice the cost, it never sounded nearly as good as my run of the mill home stereo.
Since it's not a stable enclosure volume, it's a weak mounting baffle and will resonate, It wiould be a lot of work to get it to work properly. I built a Celica w/ 8" midbass in the door and it works well, but it was a lot of work to make it perform well. I have a different solution in my car up front, large stable enclosure with good flat response and doesn't hurt imaging and staging. I have to get the OK to post pictures, there is a magazine shoot scheduled and they don't like to "let the cat out of the bag" when they invest money on indoor studios and professional photographers. I'll no for sure after Spring Break.
