i'd take that challenge

i've put 8s in the doors of my last 2 dsms... it's nothing new to me. and actually the evo's doors are pretty rattle free in comparison. i didn't have to do too much initial sound deadening. I'll hit them with some more power, run a few sweeps, and seal em up a little more then.

I just did the IASYS measurements on my system and my 6.5 is linear in car from 31Hz to 3.7K , 3db down @ 27Hz. They are in a solid sealed enclosure, heavily damped w/ a 1/4 steel ring that they are bolted to. They are performing better than the Dyn 8's I had in .75' in an enclosure in the wheel well of an old Benz. Bring your car to NJ, I'll be happy to measure it for you.

Why do you guys work so hard to make a car stereo sound good? Most of the kids who run killer stereo's only listen to hip hop, trance, ect. It's usually not music that really benifits a whole lot from proper staging, linear sound production, ect. Especially in a car like an evo that muddies the sound even further with all the wierd noises it makes. My measly $600 home stereo will own 95% of the car stereos out there when it comes sound quality.

my headphones will sound better than your home stereo. It's not about getting the best sound quality, its about sounding good while driving. Some people like to hear good mid-bass in the front of the car, thats all.

Why don't you just do what I did...Put a 12in W7 in the trunk and you don't need all that other crap. It's the cleanest bass in the world and nothin rattles, and you still sound better that dudes with 3k systems...

I think the 8" in the door are pretty sweet for a show car, I'd like to see them with the door panels on. As far as sound staging It's really the quality of speaker combined with proper installations and of course the acoustical architecture of the car. There will never be great sound staging in a car unless it is designed around the stereo system.
If you want the best sound staging go buy yourself a $300 pair of headphones

I have a 12" infinity kappa perfect in my trunk and infinity kappa 6 3/4" tri's in the front doors and infinity kappa 6" x 9" tri's in the rear deck (inclosed) and the sound staging is beauty. It bumps hard to all the heavy bass hip hop and is crisp and clear on all the highs and the mid bass is clean. no rattles until I crank the sub up, which i usually don't have it up very high. all these speakers cost me around $350 (I know a guy who knows a guy who saw them on e-bay, brand new). Infinity has awesome capabilities.

I completly agree. I'm all about a good sounding car stereo, but stuff like this cracks me up, mostly because it's the same crap I used to say back when I was a car stereo nut:

Its a freakin car, not a sound room. Especially in an evo with all the road and engine noise. Cranking the music up with the windows down I fully understand, but trying to tell me you car has the accoustics of a concert hall, I just don't get.

Absolutely. I love cars and music. I have a set of $800 headphones that I use as a reference for tuning the car. I compete in SQ and don't think there is a better place to listen to music than in my car. I have customers all the time that tell me my car sounds better than their 150K Levinson,Krell, logan home systems. To each their own, but don't think it can't be done.
