Most people would agree that the exhaust is the most restrictive part of the system. Start there!

Just remove the stock downpipe at the 02 housing and your done j/k. I have just a catback on now and am waiting for my downpipe to be put on and I could tell a difference from just the catback, but the whole thing is definatley restrictive. I guess after the downpipe is put on I might as well put the test pipe, because apparentely is make a big difference too.

I agree with JFawns, you need a downpipe and a exhaust or you wont get the best results. Take your time.

I think that if you look at the actual exhaust, the cat-back is the most restrictive portion. The downpipe is actually of decent design.

Of course, I recommend pulling out the whole system for a 3" setup.

Get a 3" downpipe that tapers to 2.5" at the cat. Then get an axle-back muffler.

You shouldn't notice any low rpm, part throttle torque loss.

personally, i only did the 2.5 downpipe and cat. i didn't want the sound of an aftermarket. Maybe later but not now. I was thinking of taking out the flap in the muffler, but there is too much turblence

Which exhaust has a decent performance, with the minimum of noise. Not to loud.

imho RMR is the only ehaust that comes with a certificate saying that it passes the 95 db limit but thats on the catback only.adding the dp will make it louder but not sure how much.i have the RMR turboback on mine and i havent been hassled yet for it.

theres a pretty good exhaust thread on here which compares a dozen or so exhausts, side by side and lists db, and has an mp3 of each so you can hear how they sound...

check it out!

I have the HKS Hipower 30th catback and the HKS DP.
The sounded no louder than stock. It sounded deeper, meaner, but not louder.
It got a little louder when I added the UR cat, but still quiet like stock unless you are WOT.

It is not the cheapest way to go, but I heard another Evo with this exhaust and knew
it was what I wanted.

The best way to choose is to listen to other evos and see what the exhausts sound like
for yourself. This is what I did. I found an evo event and went there.
