Anyone have this head unit? Panasonic MXE CQ-C9801U
Just wondering if anyone has this head unit. Crutchfield says it does not fit, but I was wondering if anyone was able to make it fit anyway.
Mine's pretty close to the same unit (its actually the same chassis, i know because my father works for Panasonic.). and mine fits fine with some mods...

You can see in that picture that there is a shroud around the radio face (and if you look closely you can see that i have a video of an EVO sliding through the snow). Without the shroud, you can see some of the radio's guts, but because of the mounting position in the EVO, the shroud doesnt look like it will fit. Initially i ground off all of the pressure clips on the shroud and glued it directly to the center console. This was a really smooth way to mount it, but the motorized face would rub a little bit on the shroud. When i was installing my Basslink i noticed that there are auxillary mounting hole on the stereo that allow you to "lift" it out of the mounting position. If you mount the stock mitsubishi radio brackets to these holes (they are about 1/2" closer to the rear of the stereo than the reccommended mounting holes) then the stereo will mount in such a way that it sticks out from the center console by about 1/4". Now you can attach the shroud normally (i had to get a new shroud since i cut up my old one) and everythign works like a dream.
I've had it mounted like that for a while with 0 problems. crutchfield says it doesnt fit because of the shroud, but it does. if you buy it and need help with the installation you can let me know.
