Alpine pro's needed in here PLEASE!!

Ok, I need some help here and I'm pressed for time so let me try and condense this story: I bought a full system for my Evo(got sick of the factory POS) including an Alpine 9830 H/U, Infinity Basslink sub, MBQuart 100wpc amp and speaks all the way around. I am having problems with the 9830 so I called Crutchfield and they want me to return it and pick another as the 9830 is discontinued, but I have to make a decision today. Therein lies my problem, what H/U to choose? I was thinking about the 9855 but it's $200 more and it has that damn glide touch. The 9830 had 4 volt pre-outs and to get that with any other Alpines I have to spend another $200(9855)! What do you guys think, which H/U would be the best for my money. I don't listen to MP3's or Ipod, just Fm/Am and cd's. It seems that many people don't like the new Glide Touch that Alpine came out with so I'm at a loss here. I just want good sound quality and a reliable H/U. Do I really need the 4 volt pre-outs? Thanks for all your help.
Here is a link to the Alpines that Crutchfield has available:

i work at a stereo shop, and carry alpine. I choose the 9851 because of the bigger screen(compared to the lower models) the reason is becasue the face flips down...all the other models(lower) are front load cd(which i did not like becasue of the sdmaller screen) i also wantede an ipod, so i had to buy thre kca-420i(ipod interface) but you dont want ther ipod so never mind. lol Also...the 4v preouts are better that the less voltage ones because it sends a stronger/ more signal to noise ratio signal to the amps, now if your running an external amp this could be a pluss...but i am not running any amps so i didnt even care about what the pre-outs were/or their voltage. now the glide touch is just a hassle if you ask me..its the "bling-bling" i can move my finger up and down on the screen actor...and frankly i can go through the presets/menu easier on my 9851 than on the 9853/9855 cuz its just a pain lol. but a cheep good decjk i would recomend the highest "origanal face" they have(9847) or maybe stepup(which i think) for a bigger display and go to the "swing" face units(9851) my.02

Cool, Thanks for the info. I was eyeballin the 9847 and the 9851, both look like good decks.
I do have an external amp so what do you think then? Go with the 4v pre outs, I do want good sound quality. Does the 9855 sound better than the 9847/51 ? I'm still at a loss of which one to get. Damn, why the hell did Alpine come up with this Glide Touch crap........

honestly...i dotn think you can tell the difference between sound quality..they both have 50X4, now if you has a amp for mids and highs i woudl PROLLLY go with 4v pre outs(front and rear) but since its used for the sub like i said b4 dont think u can tell the diff. unless you are some SQ judge lol

The glidetouch really isn't as cool as it sounds, at least not IMO... When I read the thing in the new catalog I thought it would be awesome... then I saw one at a store and played with it, I wasn't impressed. I love my 9835.

Yeah seems that many people are not happy with the Glide Touch crap. I have a 9830 but it keeps screwing up, I think it is caused by the heat. Guess until Alpine gets their **** straight I'll have to slip over to Kenwood or Pioneer.

I have the 9835, great unit if you have multiply amps. I have the JL Audio 500/1 and the 300/4 with 2 12" w3's. This unit has bulit in crossover and EQ with a whole bunch of other goodies. A bit costly though.....

Well I went ahead and got the Kenwood 889, only had so many to choose from at Crutchfield. Just seems that too many people are having problems with Alpines 05 models. Thanks for your help.

Not meaning to revive on old thread. But, has anyone here had any GOOD experiences w/ the Glide touch or the new alpines (9853-9855)?

I'm looking at getting the 9855 to replace my old Bluapunkt thats starting to crap out on me.

I have it....its not bad. I kinda like it, but it's far from perfect (the glide touch). I really wish the screen was in full color too. I got it for real cheap on the internet too, go to pricegrabber.com and type in Alpine and the model #, I'm sure you'll find the same place that I bought it from, free shipping, and no tax.
