this is a good question, well with the SRT4 I sure had my fair share of fun with it.
The 04's came with a Quaife LSD from the factory so it helped a bit for traction, cornering, but since its a FWD car you'll still have traction problems if you are pushing a lot of WHP on the streets.
Positives of the SRT4 that immediately come to mind:
1) more supportive viper style seats (more supportive than EVO's recaros)
2) Bigger displacement, more tq. more HP, 2.4L vs. 2.0 of EVO
3) Engine responds well to mods, easy and cheap to hook up.
getting 400+ WHP outta this motor is doable with an upgraded turbo.
4) Cluth and tranny on the SRT4 is STRONG
5) Factory brakes are great as well, its been said that the SRT4 will out stop some Ferrari's
6) decent shifter
7) Decent quality interior
8) Mean and unique sounding exhaust note. no other car sounds like an SRT4
9) ability to run VTA bov w/o stalling or having any negative side effects
Negatives of the SRT4:
1) Handling sucks compared to EVO, body/frame is not as solid/firm as EVO...
2) Narrow tires 17 X 6 wheels on 205/50/17 tires
3) resale value sucks a$$
4) small glove box
5) rear end sits too high
6) slam on the brakes at 100+ miles per hour you better hold on tight cuz the tail will come loose.
7) No power windows in the rear.
8) The motor mounts on the car are WEAK
I mainly bought the EVO when i was able to afford it cuz I wanted a car that also excels in handling and braking....surely the EVO out of the box will out handle and out brake the SRT4....
as for engine mods, well, the more money you have etc, the faster your car will be.
For racing the SRT4's strengths lies in the roll.....I would race from a roll at like 2nd gear, 40 MPH roll, which is the SRT4's sweet spot, and that'll make the car accelerate really strong....
anyhow 2nd and 3rd gear on the SRT pull real hard, and with the displacement advantage, it would be a hard car for other sport compacts to beat.
