HKS SSQ BOV Ver. 2 Installed (pics inside) NO56k

Well, after posting some really embarrasing dyno numbers due to a boost leak, the time came to replace my 10 year old HKS SSQ BOV with the recirc. kit.

The HKS SSQ BOV Version 2 comes with the upper intercooler (hard)pipe with the flange already welded on.

Install was straight forward, but the clip holding the BOV on needs some patience and massage to get it on the pipe.

Yes, I know, I know I am VTA, but I have been blessed with a MAF (or I trained my MAF) and I have NOT stalled, yet. I DO bog off boost a bit, but that's it.

Enjoy the pics...

-Vince

I drive safely (most of the time) and stay OFF the boost for gas reasons...I hate paying for gas.

But, when I do drive hard, I tend to hold it in the next gear for a sec or two before I go to neutral, this lets all that extra fuel that was dumped into my engine run thru, and not cause a stall or bog....

Some MAF's are more friendly to this mod than others, I have been lucky...so far.

It looks a little tight, but fitment was not a problem. The BOV comes close to some connectors at the tom of the valve cover, but still clears.

I like to loosely hook everything up first and adjust before I tighten everything down. There is tons of play in the silicone connectors....

BTW: Looking at my own pictures makes me realize my stock battey is FREAKING huge!!! Time for a mini-battery and a catch can!

Greedmoto - Thanks much for the PM reply and the post.

So, that is a HKS upper pipe, right? And it stops at the top, I am guessing from the pics?

Also, with this VTA issue - Doesnt the S-AFC has a feature thats supposed to help with re-circ/VTA setting? I cannot remember for sure!

Yup, the kit is the BOV and the upper IC pipe. It stops at a silicone elbow that is included in the kit and goes right to the manifold.

As for the s-AFC, the (discontinued) HKS s-AFC had the EIDS built in....offering the best of both worlds...piggy-back fuel control AND idle control over sudden jumps in A/F.

But sad to say, you can't find to many left, but you can buy just the HKS EIDS for like $100 new or much cheaper here used on evoM. Some people use it and then eliminate the MAF to go with speed density, and the end up selling the EIDS barely used for cheap....

Hope I answered your questions...

Looks a lot better than version one...I think it was a good idea for HKS to utilize a upper intercooler pipe...I just got rid of my HKS SSQ BOV and got an APS one...

Nice Vince!

Must check out your car... we should hang on Woodward again. I met your boy Chris (silver '04 S2K) at the bally's on Big Beaver. We'll have to cruise again and get a little Evo group meet.

Well, since I "killed two birds with one stone" by buying a sweet part AND fixing my boost leak, I found my lost power...

Speaking of birds, it kinda chirps like one at low boost, and sounds like stepping on a chicken at high boost. I have someone elses vid clip I can e-mail to ya if ya want.
