The gold reflective tape is more used as prevention. When you are using an exposed exhaust manifold, heat travels upward/around, so it's a precautionary thing to try and keep internal fluids, and exposed parts from an excessive temps. It's nothing that you can see while sitting in your car and checking your gauges and see any kind of temp. drop...
