My daughter just jacked the hell out of fender opening a car door (Have you ever wanted to choke your off-spring out).
I'll be looking for a full re-paint very soon.

i cannot attempt to understand what the reasoning was to not simply include this damn bumper with the usdm evo. i mean seriously, what made the japanese take a step back, look at the usdm bumper and say "oh yeah the americans will love this, ours is so much lamer. no american wants a rear bumper that looks like it goes with the damn car"

The US DOT approved rear crash beam requires the small pillars. If you modify it to remove those then it would not have complied with the regulations that were in place when the 2003's rolled onto US soil.
Regulations changed somewhere near the 2006-2008 timeframe (cant remember the exact year) as OEM's designed compliant reinforcements which didnt have the pillars.
As Mitsu already had the tooling and dimensions penned for production of a US DOT compliant bumper/reinforcement there would be no reason to redesign or go through the costly and time consuming process of re-crash-testing the vehicle during its model cycle.
Cant you just be happy that Mitsu brought one quality vehicle to our shores? Without the Evo Mitsubishi would be a hot ginger mess of crappy products and government bail outs.
