Question Evo owners

Thank you. I really love the Ralliart Lancer and she will now be the daily driver but the Evo is just plain in a class of its own. You Evo owners know what I mean. You are used to it, and I am new to it!

I really like the new seats. The feel is the same as the others but the look is different. First change will be the gauge cluster and radio swap to get teh gauges mounted higher so I can see them! Like I did with the Ralliart.

Question:

Break in period. How serious did you take it and what did you do exactly. I am have been ginger with it. I don;t wanna hurt her but I wanna have fun. I will try and be patient.

What did you guys do?

i waited until 1k before pushing her hard, some drive hard out of the box.
but i recommend at least following the break in period in the manual. min 600 miles before taking her above 5k

Dave,
What are you driving now? I can imagine you driving anything that isn't bad ***. Maybe you can make the next meet. Yup, it is cool we are gonna use it for meets, autocrosses, and car shows, should be fun.

Joe,
Thanks man, see you at the next meet!

thats a fresh motor i would follow normal breakin before pushing it after all its a new 4g63 mivec motor so i wouldnt know how it would react to abuse out the door

I figure when it comes to break in....better safe than sorry. Red is nice. I originally wanted gray to match my Ralliart but red was the final choice. Very racey if you ask me.

As you probably are aware, there are a few different schools of thought on this. In fact, there was just a post in Evo General on this very topic.

Unlike the argument for Intelligent Design vs Evolution, the answer to THIS question IS likely somewhere in the middle. However, I would tend to lean more towards the hundreds of engineers behind the factory-suggested break-in procedure over the renegade race car mechanics. You might want to follow the moderate guidelines below:

- Don't take it to redline before you have at least 500 miles clocked
- Vary your RPM while driving. 2-5K rpm is a reasonable range.
- Build only limited amounts of boost for the first 500 miles
- Change your oil and filter after 500 miles.
- Enjoy some spirited driving till 1000 miles, but not all-out ragging
- After 1000 miles, enjoy everything the car has to offer!

Happy Motoring, and congrats.
