I already tried velcro.... The problem is that one piece of the velcro must stay in the HU tray. Unfortunately, the faceplace fits flush against the metal. There just isn't any room for anything in there.....

Original... but to a knowledgeable thief, the trim ring around the face of the headunit would be a dead giveaway.

THe magnet can pull the electrical paths in the HU and mess around with it causing spikes or regulating spikes durning operation with could casue overheat or underpowering, don't know my electronics but i suggest you use something different, those motors and speakers that use magnets are usually only polar on one side now.

I guess I could make a few pieces, but I only know it will work with my Alpine as far as the magnetic arrangement..... The black cover plate will probably work with any HU since they are all the same size. However, the area where the faceplate attaches could be quite different from unit to unit....

I could (or somebody else could) cut the textured plastic covers in small quantities and send them to people, but one would probably have to charge $5 or so to make it worth while..... perhaps the spacer, magnet and double side tape could be made in a couple of smaller pieces and sent as a "kit" so each person can customize their own. Of course, by the time all that stuff is bought, cut, packaged and shipped, they might end up costing $10 or $15...... I think ppl would balk at the price. It's probably easier (although not really cheaper) to make them yourself...

True, but since you only have the magnet on when the faceplate is off, it wouldn't be in operation. There should be minimal power flowing through the HU while the magnet is mounted, so minimal risk of it causing any interferance.

I have a JVC HU that reads MP3 off of a DVD-R. I have 650+ albums (hip-hop & rap) and a bunch of misc. stuff (albums & misc = 50 gigs) and it only takes 11 disc. I thought about getting an Ipod or something but dont like having a little box hookedup to my HU. I like my stuff to be simple. I though up the ides of putting MP3s on a DVD-R years ago and told every major company. A DVD-R MP3 disc hold 70 albums (+/- 10) compared to a regular MP3 disc that holds 9 (+/- 2).

I don't think my Alpine will read off A DVD R DISC... I know it reads MP3s from CDs or CD Rs. Navigating through the MP3 folders can be a little difficult at times. I can hold my 3000 song collection very easily in the iPod and then I wont have a single disk to dela with.... Well, what I'm doing sounds like a nice theory anyway, I'll try it and see how well it works......

the JVC is the only DVD-R MP3 player on the market right now. I have all my music aphabtized and its very easy to navigate though. Also a Ipod wouldn't work for me ( I have 50+ gigs, believe the biggest one is 40 gigs, also I'll probably have over 60 gigs by spring). Also the price of a good HU and a Ipod is a lot more then I paid for my DVD-R MP3 HU.

anyways good jod, not trying to change you plan or anything. Just giving input on other idea just in case a different idea is the better route for you.

ps where do you put/gonna put your I pod when you get it?

I was just surfing for the adaptors of the iPod to Alpine and saw the ad for the JVC... It's impressive and fairly inexpensive! ... Needing huge space to store music could be a problem. However, my iPod has 60 gigs of space . More than enough for my needs.

Oh, no offence taken. I welcome input and information about other alternatives. This is just something I could easily do with what I have on hand. Actually, I just looked at the stock HU and it has some sort of socket in the back like the CD changer connector. Maybe I did not even need the Alpine in there for running the iPod through the radio.... I'll post a picture later. Oh yeah, I have no clear idea about locating the iPod.... Maybe something will occur to me later

i think this is beyond original but you can still see the ring around it and speakers in your car so the avg theif would be able to put it together to find out that you have a cd player. looks real nice and clean though
