Best bet is to try to find someone with a working control head, plug his in and see if it does the same thing.
Good idea... I'll try to give this a shot. I mean, there are plenty of people parting out lancers all the time so I can just pick one up, I just don't want to spend the money if A: it's not the problem, or B: There's a simple fix.

Thanks for your help guys...

Might have gotten some Vinylex in there, but I doubt it. I'll check though, thanks.

hey, i started to have similar problem just recently. it's not stuck ALL the time, but once in a while the AC LED stays on eventhough the temp knob is in the max RED and selector knob is on lower + middle vents. after a lil while it turns off. hard to duplicate.

Weird... I'm going to check into this more, it just annoys me. I like things to work the way they're supposed to.

No insult was intended. You're right, I just misread.

It may have gotten stuck in this mode. When you removed the controls and looked behind, there wasn't anything broken? wire pinched? I know you stated everything looked ok, just confirming.

Did you try resetting the computer? Not sure if it's related, but worth a shot.

Well that was the kind of snide comment I would have made, so I thought it was

I'll look again but I didn't see anything. But then again, when it's turned on MAX A/C the recirc function is also forced on, so maybe that is the problem. I'll check again when I get home from work.

as far as i remember the recirc in that AC setting has always turned on. i believe that's how it's supposed to be: u don't want to suck in warm humid outside air. (dunno if u were unsure about that, so letting u know just in case)
