Flat blacked the intercooler...
Here's a great black paint for the I/C http://www.nicindustries.com/page.asp?navid=162.
NIC also makes a good thermal barrier paint for the exhaust, turbo, header and pistons.

Plus think of the other advantages. No more unwanted attention from cops, vandals, and thieves. Being able to hustle cocky high horsepower car owners. I'd rather have the black fmic just on these advantages alone than a silver one just to try to impress people who think it "looks cool."

The WRX looks sharp. That APS intercooler is a monster. I like the clean look of the black IC and don't really care if it fools anyone. I just don't think there is anything appealing about having a big silver block filling your front grill.

With that being said, you fail to see how the combination of smoked JDM headlights and a black fmic on a black wrx make it flow more naturally.

I dont think all black FMICs look "stupid" I just think polished ones look better and Im not about hiding what I have. Cops dont pull me over because I have a front mounted intercooler, thats just ridiculous. As for hustling cocky car owners well, if theyre that nieve to think a 4cylinder turbo'd car is going to race them and "doesnt have a FMIC" looks like you didnt need to fool them, they fooled themselves.

From a distance, de-winged and de-badged, it could be hard to tell, you might get the usual idiot struggling to catch up then realizing the mistake....and have that stupid look on his/her face as they try to play it off. I have had this happen already even with no sleeper look.....yet.
Same with an 02' s2000, put a black grill over the intercooler, you wouldn't believe some of the "oh sh*t, didn't know it had a turbo" looks I got after 2 minutes of revving on me trying to bully me around.
04' STI, debadge and winged, placed a regular WRX wing on it, now others can tell with wheels, calipers, scoop, but most people couldn't tell.
01' GSXR1000 cutstom paint and placed factory replica 600cc stickers in factory locations, hehehe, can't tell you how many bikes would try me. Had a fella in Daytona break his helmet once thinking his gsxr600 had something wrong since I beat him badly 4 times and with a passenger.
All these cars, bikes have what I call "signatures" to tell them from the norm..... like calipers, wheels, scoops, swing arms, forks, etc. But realisticly on the road moving.....especially at night, it's hard to tell. Experienced this since 02'.....
Back on topic, I like the sleeper look.

I've been running the stealth look for a while and love it. Cops don't pay so much attention to me since I blacked out my FMIC and replaced the Big *** Wing with a smaller Ralliart wing

bump for a really old thread...
...has anyone else had their front mount intercooler anodized black?? I'm looking at getting a Buschur Racing FMIC and want to see some better pics of black intercoolers, being that I am thinking of having it anodized before installing it.
