Setting up a JL 500/1

Can anyone here explain what all the settings on the back of a JL 500/1 amp are for? I installed mine and want to tweak it to get it sounding right but I don't know what the hell I'm adjusting.

Thanks

Answer is here ( http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_a...php?page_id=30 )... Notice the section where it says : "500/1, 1000/1: What the heck are all those switches and knobs for?"

Make sure you setup the "Input Sensitivity" (GAIN) like it says to in the JL manual, using a Multi-Meter.

the preamp output section is if you are using another amplifier
we usually y the connection instead of going through other xovers on amps.

second section is infrasonic filter(keeps low frequencies from playing through subs)
if you have a 10", it is most likely not capable of playing 15 hz, or if the box is ported it cuts of the highly damagaging low frequencies below the curve of the tuned port. the bass eq increases bass boost at a certain frequency and q is the level the boost effects the frequencies surrounding the center frequency.

the last section is the input gain section.
the hi/lo input depends if you are using an aftermarket radio(lo) or factory(hi) (this is for most cases-there are some exceptions) signal sensing is if you are using a factory radio, the amp will turn on/off if it sees or doesnt see signal through the rcas(this works ok, wouldnt recommend using unless you had to) the gain control helps match the output section of your radio(its not a volume knob), put your radio at 3/4 volume and set this(after setting everything else) until there is distortion in the subs, then turn it back until it is clear there is no distortion. (dont turn you radio past 3/4, there is usually distortion past that point)

have fun, enjoy
thats the best sub amp(imo) you can get
