A real deal on bumper repair

I had gotten too close to a post on the right rear, and later I got too close to and old Volvo black bumper on the left rear... Not only that but I had a minor accident where I backed up as a guy was pulling forward and I got a bit of a cut of gouge in the back bumper about the size of a quarter

Anyway, I got tired of driving around with my back bumper messed up. I hated to even wash the car for looking at the scratches and cut... I decided to see about repairing it and I went to a shop where the guy said "you need a new bumper". "That can't be reapired, it'll not look right...". He never even wrote an estimate and when I asked him the price he said "around $1500"... Well, I figure I could find a bumper in the forum and save some money and all. I found a good deal in a bumper but it needed to be painted to match my car. When I went to another shop to get a price on painting it, the guy said "you don't need a new bumper, I can fix that perfectly" I ask him how much and he says "I'll do it for $325"... So I go to another shop and the guy says "you don't need a bumper, that's not cost effective, we fix those perfectly". He wrote an estimate of $500 for the job.... Both shops would remove, repair an repaint the bumper....

I chose to go with the $325 guy because he's very close to my house and he had the best price. I asked him to also detail the car and wax it, which he said he could do as well... I took the car to him Monday morning. By tonight the car was ready! It's hard to say because it's raining like crazy around here and it was getting dark when picked up the car, but it seems to be a good job and the car was very clean with the water beading up all over the body

Here's the deal, he repaired and painted the rear bumper and detailed the car including the wax job... My total bill: $325 !!! Awesome deal on a good job. I'll post pictures tomorrow if it quits raining and the car does not get too filthy. The only negative thing is that they used some sort of soap to clean the inside which left a very strong smell . It bugs me and I hope it goes away. I left a plate with baking soda on the pax floor board and the open baking soda box in another plate next to it. I hope the smell of that soap dissipates soon, but other than that, I'm pretty happy with my nice umblemished car

Thumbs up

Awesome....I'm sure you're stoked! It definitely pays to shop around! My front bumper is showing a little age up close...not bad from afar. I can now plan on finding a shop that will not want to simply replace it, instead fix it similar to yours for a much better price than a new one!

Can't wait to see pics.....

I got a dent on the rear bumper on the right side. I hate looking at it everytime I walk to the car. it's not a major dent, but I just hate it. I used to love looking at the back end. Now It's sickens me too glance over. for that price it's not bad. I think mine is fixable. I like to get it repaint tho. we'll see what I'll come up with.

OK, here are a few pictures... I did not have pictures of the damaged bumper. I hated to even look at it, much less take pictures . Anyway, the car is pretty dirty because of the torrential rains we had yesterday and last night... Still, it does look much better

The one below is the side I rubbed against the post in the other side of the car....

Actually, you can see two short posts in this picture (look in the left side) ... I actually backed up too close to the one in the back there, near the downspout... That one I swapped paint with
I can tell you all one thing. I'm not backing into that post again!

Yeah, they seem to have done a very good job with the bumper. However, the detailing job sucked... They used some bull$hit fragrance that's overpowering. I left the car with the windows down and doors open all afternoon and it still smells . The floor mats are so "fragrant" that I might have to wash them.... Also, they used some sort of crap on the dash board even though I asked them not to do it... Oh well, I guess those things are fixable.....
