Question EVO 2006 MR - Stock Radio and changer capability

Hi Everybody,

While changing the coloring of the HVAC and stock radio, I noticed that there is an unused round adapter in the radio that seems to me like a CD Changer outlet.

Can anyone confirm if the stock radio for the 2006 MR can handle a changer?

I would like to add a changer but do not want to swap the sport gauges. I am thinking of adding a trunk/under-the-seat cd changer to the factory radio if possible.

Any help on this matter will be really appreciate it!

I have no idea, but I do work at Circuit City and we have a cd changer that can work with your factory radio. The only problem is that you will not be able to change cds from your factory radio, you must mount another part in front of your car to get it to work. The sound quality is really good because it uses a wired FM modulator that plugs into your antenna port on the radio. I wish I could help more, good luck.

I was just wondering if it is possible to hook the OEM Cd Changer to the IX MR. It seems that the radio is the same but was not sure if there is a true compatability.

Appreciate your input!

Yes, it is the same radio in the MR as the rest of them. I had the dealer install the 6 disc changer in place of my sport gauges. The sport gauges are basically useless and I can't read them from that low of a position so I had the dealer take them out and I am going with a columm mounted aftermarket unit. The sound quality is excellent but the changer is not cheap.

Hi cul8tr,

Thanks for the information!

I agree that the only usable gauge is the one for boost. I would definately replace the volts and oil temp for oil and fuel press.

I will do a little research to see if I can get a changer installed underneath of the passenger seat. The only thing that got me thinking is that I am pretty sure that you can not control the cd changer from the radio. I think that you can only control it from the changer itself.

I will post any findings here for future reference!

Why didnt you just swap the guage and radio spots so you could see them better?...
