Custom Painted Stuff

My room mate was in the process of repainting the wheels on his maxima when he suggested that we paint the Mitsu. emblem on the front bumper with Gunmetal finish paint. I figured why not stop there, and painted all the other mesh inserts in the front bumper as well as the hood vent. Here are a couple pics. It is kinda hard to see the mesh but you can see the difference in the emblem. I think the emblem looks much better than the chrome look it had before, and the rest of the mesh gives a nice subtle touch to the front end.

It is clear coated. I am in Moultonborough. After I masked of the whole area (I did not remove it to paint it), I cleaned it with some alcohol, then I roughed up the surface a little with some 1200 grit sandpaper. Then I hit it with 3-4 light coats of paint, making sure I got good even coverage. I let each coat dry before putting a new one on. After the last coat dryed I put on a couple coats of clear. I was a little concerned about it getting chipped, but if it does I can always go through and do it again. It was an easy process. That part of the bumper doesn't seem to get beat up to badly. My paint has a few tiny chips but only on the front of the hood and lower part of the bumper.
