I asked ... now i tell

First off let me start with i am not sponsored nor do i have any affiliation with HRE rims. I just wanted to drop a little word about them seeing how i just asked if anyone knew anything about the rims.

I looked around on the internet today while i was sitting here collecting a pay check for pretty much nothing. Seems to be other than HRE rims being rather pricey they are a decently good rim. Using 6061 ( aircraft grade aluminum ) forged aluminum the 18 in rim generally weigh about 18 pounds. Alot of people who have looked at rims could probably tell you that this is a good weight seeing how most rims that size weigh about 20-22 lbs. I called an anthurized dealer and asked him if he could tell me a little bit about the rim and he was quite informative.

The first question i had was if the wheel was strong: The rep informed me that the rim have 6061-T6 forged centers with titanium rim fasteners.

The next question i could think of was if i wanted to add a big brake kit or something did they have any problems with fitment: The rep said that the wheel is actually custom made for each car so although they don't specify lug patterns a wheel could be made for any car. Also if a big brake kit was to be applied and concerns were voiced about proper fit they could actually take that into consideration and make sure that the rim made would be able to fit.

The last question i have was about hw many pieces the rim was: Simply put , it's a three piece wheel .

Some may say that HRE's are a little to "blingy" (i thought people stopped using that word but ok) for them, so this might not be the rim for you. If the polished aluminum doesn't scare you off then the $5000 price tag for 18 in rims may. The set that were priced were from there competition rims set so i imagine that they do com less costly. For those of you who don't race and want to have a rim that looks nice, i say give them a look. Some of them actually look pretty nice and model some of the versions currently on the market.

AND FOR NEWBIES: I did the work for you so don't ask where can you see some. Type in "HRE RIMS" in at google and start looking (there i even did the searching for you).

Since i asked and no one really knew here is my contribution to the community lately.

ok HRE rims are very very high quality, when i used to have my bimmer, HRE were the way to go! the thing is, they are just too damn expensive. although the wheel itself is just beyond perfect. the rims arent really that blingy, it's the finish you choose to make them blingy or not. if i had that much EXTRA cash lying around. HRE would be my first choice.

My thing is this, most people say they love their car so much and spend so much time and effort trying to figure out how to make it go fast they forget about the aesthetics of a car. People put carbon fiber everything on their car yet they call rims "blingy" . I think a car should be well rounded not just all go no show. If you can spend $5000 dollars on a car for performace upgrades you should be able to match the quality of the engine with the quality of the appearance of your ride. I haven't bought rims yet but i will seriously consider these ones when it comes time.

18lbs for an 18" HRE? You sure about that? Maybe for just the center section.

IMO HRE's belong on bimmers and benzes. They are ultra high quality rims for luxury cars, not necessarily tuner cars. I would stick with Work Wheels, Advan's, BBS, SSR, or some tried and true Volk's. To each his own.

There's a pretty lengthy record of HRE's failing on the track, with something obscene like 9 wheel failures at one Viper trackday event.
