Trackday pics: Evos vs. Porsches vs. Scoobies
One thing and best thing I like about Evos especially the old ones are how they handle in the track. You may have noticed in various tests done by motoring shows, Evos had beaten the hell out of those exotics like a 360 Modenas, Murcis, Porkers, and its main Euro rival, the M3. During one of our trackdays, 2 M3s were never able to keep up with a pack of 6 Evos in the wet Batangas Racing Circuit! Moreover, the Evos where never left behind bu those super exotics.
Below is a picture of an Evo 5 chasing a Porsche. And dont think it is just your everyday Porker, that Porker is a ULTRA rare GT2!!! Only 80 of them made for the whole world!!! At the end, the Porker ate the Evo 5s dust near the first chicane. The Evo 5 just got bigger pistons, 272 JUN cams, ported turbo, and a stand alone ECU.
Evos are meant to perform. They are not meant to go straight only. They are meant to be driven, and that means, to turn and handle well, and not only to get better time slips. If you want a drag car, then set-off for a Honda. Besides, I had never seen an Evo beat the record of a Honda in the 1320
(6secs by the AEM team). But if you want total performance that will beat the living hell out of those expensive exotics both in the circuit and street, the Evo is your best shot.
Sorry if I just have to rant a little. I was speaking to a guy here a few months (I wont mention names), but I had asked him "why is it that the basis of testing who got a better Evo is through drag only? Why not bring it to the track? Does the presence of chicanes and tight turns freak you out?" And he told me "coz bringing the car to the circuit is far more expensive than just dragging it
". I then replied "so why did you still buy an Evo when you cant even spend on bringing it to the track? just like saying you can buy cigarrettes but cant afford a lighter
".
Some of you guys may wonder why it aint done on a drag strip. Hope that answers the questions.

Dude... I agree with you on your post above... but honestly.. it will fall to deaf ears to most people on here. It's not even worth arguing with some of the members here. Just enjoy your car on the road track... I know I do.
I love that Evo 5! It's my favorite Evo of all time. I got it's stock rims on my car right now since I really can't have the real car.
I wish I can visit some of the tracks in the PI when I go back there, but I think the honeymoon will be much more important.
I hope I can at least see some sweet cars there when I visit.

I hope I can at least see some sweet cars there when I visit.I really noticed that an Evo is hungry for the circuit, especially with the new ones. With its computerized systems like SAYC/ACD, that car will surely turn heads! To be honest, I used to drag my Evo 5 before coz I was unstoppable! Then I came to realize that there is more in the circuit than in the strip! Yes an Evo is brute and raw power, but total performance is still its specialty.

btw... do you have any info on where to get some Evo stuff/parts/etc in the PI? I've asked some friends/family, but they really didn't know where to go. PM or email me, pare.

You sir, are one of the purists here, like me. The Evo is out of it's element in a straight line. People get addicted to it's acceleration, but it's acceleration isn't meant for a drag strip, it's meant for tearing out of tight corners and chicanes!
The car was built for the twisties, that's where it really excels.
