JDM IX rear

gruppe-s.com has them and it says it comes in factory paint. Is this true and is there any other place to order it. Is it hard to install. Also are there any fitment issues with the stock exhaust? Post your pics too.

gruppe-s is the only vendor i know of that usually has them in stock.. yeah, they come in factory (jdm) colors in mitsu boxes even (no graphite grey). your stock exhaust will stick out a bit further due to the bumper being shorter.. there are how-to's posted as far as installing goes..

There are many threads regarding the issues you have stated... I would do a quick search for "JDM REAR" and see what you get.. But briefly:

- gruppe-s (to my knowledge) gets them from mitsubishi directly so the paint is a "factory" match.

- in order to install it you must remove the rear crash beam, while not difficult per say, but it is in itself a controversial topic - removing a safety beam isn't something everyone is willing to do.

- The OEM USDM exhaust will stick out a bit, as will most USDM aftermarket evo exhausts. You will have to modify the exhaust (some people just cut the stock USDM tip) for proper fitment - or find and import an exhaust sold specifically in the JDM markets for the JDM rear.

Is the rear support beam just the 5mph bumper, or is it technically structural? I'm assuming it isn't structural per se, because the JDM cars don't have them …

yea the crash bean is only for 5-10mph crashes, i think there just on there because of the law, i dont see a reason why you wouldnt want to but you could also just modify it to, there is a write up in the how to section exactly on this, check it out

The graphite is going to be available soon as the EVO IX MR release in Japan. Too bad I had to get mine painted. I ordered mine thru Fizzautosports in Bayside, New York, call them up.
there is no fitment issue, and it will fit perfect w/ stock muffler. but if you have a angle exit exhaust, you might have to trim the bumper.

Are you really talking about a JDM IX rear bumper?

Yeah the diffuser is a dark metallic grey. It's actually the same exact color as the dark grey in the Lancer and Evolution part of the MR's badge. It's also the same color as the Wicker Bill on the wing. Mitsu color-keyed all that mess perfectly!

i believe you can get a cf diffuser from street concepts.. i dont know how the fitment will be since the actual bumper doesnt fit right onto the rear quarter panels.

and what noise.....your car looks better every tym i look at it!

Too funny, man! Thanks. These are actually some old pics just after the bumper install but before the KW suspension. You can see the ugly yellow Bilsteins peeking out!
