Has anyone had this problem with their SSL or otherwise sunroof/moonroof equipped evo/lancer? When i press in the center of the sunroof button it pops up as normal, when i push forward it closes to regular closed position. when i pushbackwards its supposed to tilt the back down and slide back into the roof. what i noticed is happening is every time i try this the center of the sunroof molding gets pinched between the sunroof glass and the car roof so it stops the progress, if i give it a little push on each corner(the corners go down fine so i guess its the fact that the glass is curved) the center part of the glass eventually pops down and then i can push the button backwards again and the glass will slide back. i think the car is awesome and i want to keep it, if i have to take it in for this warranty work at 10k miles though it has me worried what other issues i could have. also, im not sure what they're going to do to fix it because if you cut the molding it will leak water im sure. any ideas? anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it?
ill take pics as soon as i can. but to describe it, you know if you push the button back to make it drop down and slide back, the corners that drop down make it all the way under the roofline but the center of the glass gets caught on the back of the sunroof hole and doesnt drop down therefore preventing the roof from being able to slide back.
this is what a warrenty is for. Take it in and make them fix it. Do not try to fix this yourself as you could make matters worse. And if they can tell you were screwing with it they may not want to cover it. Good luck.
I have the same problem with my roof. Mine will pop up fine and close fine, but every once and a while when I go to open it up completely it gets stuck and I have to give it a little push and then it slides right back.
I have the same issue with my '03 VIII SSL...very frustating. I have noticed that it only happens when there is a high moisture level in the air over night. Like when there is a lot of dew on the car. That is when it effects my sunroof. Spring and fall are the only times of the year it does it. And yes it is frustrating. And the last thing I want to do in strain the sunroof motor, and down the road, end up having to buy one. Knowing the price of OE parts for our cars, it will probbaly cost about $10k for the sunroof motor
Next time it happens, don;t mess with it and drive to teh dealer asap. See if it will replicate for them, and that way they can addess the issue and take care of it while it is still under warranty.

mines the same as an 03 im sure. anyway i didnt tinker with it i just did what 1BlackEvo9 did i have to give it a little nudge and then it falls all the way under the roofline and then i slide the button back again and the roof goes all the way back. ah well im not really looking forward to having a Galant for a couple days but i guess i have no choice. thanks guys
ah. fixed it myself. i put a very small dab of white lithium(rubber safe) grease on the back where it seemed to be binding and it slides no problem. while i was in there i greased up the track that it slides on. flawless.
