I like these gauges but do not like the idea of a lighting seperate from the stock. So you remove the stock bulbs or something? Then install these over and it has it's own backlight?

No, you don't need to remove the stock bulbs at all, the gauge overlay lights up itself.

The stock lighting will still light up behind the overlays but you wont be able to see it.

Unscrew the 2 scews at top off gauges. Pull out gauges unsnap the clear shield in front of the gauges. Slide the overlays over your gauges. Route wires so you dont see them and plug them into power box it comes with. Snap the clear shield back on. Run the power and ground wires from the power box. There is a screw behind the gauges that screw into the metal bar that supports the dash. I used that as my ground (black wire). The power wire just splices into a power supply but I forgot what color wire it was. It comes in the instructions. It took me no more than a half hour get these installed. Hope this helps

I had them on my 03 Evo, the quality is cheaper than that of the stock and the blue is not a very good color.

IMO I do not like them.

To each their own.
