Repairability of OEM hood?
Repairability of OEM hood?
Well, some beater celica blazed passed me on the highway not 20 minutes ago and some small tile sized piece of metal dropped from under his car, skipped off the pavement, and put a gash/dent into the hood. Took off paint in several places and is fairly deep.

So....fixable, ya think?

let me know...I got a similar oval dent from rocks on a freeway...I never bothered to take it in to get an estimate b/c mine's not this noticible...but I'm interested now...at one point, I figured it was easier and cheaper for me to buy a used hood off someone than to pay to get it fixed without insurance.
Just from the minimal info I know about painting I would say yes.... By a shop.. Sand and tap out as much of the dent as they can. then use filler/bondo to smooth it out. primer/paint....
Time to buy a CF hood.

Yes, it is fixable and having body shop experience, I can't believe they want to charge you $600. All that needs to be done is feather edge the paint away, pull the dent some, apply some plastic filler, sand smooth, prime it, seal it, and blend the color with the hood and clear it.
Honestly it shouldn't cost the shop more than $250 and a day to do that kind of repair....maybe two days at the most to be ready to deliver out. I suppose they may want to blend the color over to the fender as well, but that's not really necessary. With a small repair like that, only a pint of paint is necessary whether they blend into the fender or not. I would say a decent shop should only be looking to charge you in the $400 range, $450 maybe.

That was the first shop I went to. There's one by my office that I'll be talking with tomorrow. I do like the look of CF, however, it would feel kinda strange putting one onto an otherwise stock car.

$500 was what I had in mind, and I didn't even take it into a shop. People were selling their used OEM hoods for like $200...$250 anyways...but my car is old, not as new as yours, so I was just looking for used hood that wasn't too beat up.
But you should get it fixed, that's what insurance is for...

I have the same dent in my hood. it's been there for a while too. I went to a shop and they tried to take me to the cleaners. gave me a bull crap story about they can't just paint the hood they have to do the bumper and fenders so get it to match and they want to replace my lights too. 3 grand. I told the guy to go eat a kock!
