well, i've had the S techs on my evo viii for about 2 yrs, i now have them on my ix for about 7 months, no issues with either sets i've installed. they look great, handling is not quite as good as stock, but i dont track the car either, i drag it alot, but the stance helps with that i think.... works for me.... and agreed, shocks blow... sell the springs and upgrade

As for the gold stockers, I think it looks pretty good, and I'm not easily impressed.

Last thing, these types of things should be in show'n'shine, just fyi.
I am with you, I think I was the first Evo 8 MR owner to completely destroy the factory bilstein shocks by installing cheap a $$ springs(Teins).

As Warrtalon said, either do full coiloverkits or don't do just springs.

Ok this is rediculous.

i appreciate the concern, but this is NOT the first car ive modified, by any means. I fully understand the benefits and drawbacks to springs. I accept them, thanks.

next.

I swear I just want to be your friend and best advisor. I also thought the springs were my cheap "temporary" option until I get the coilovers.
My result was absolutely cathastropic, not only I destroyed my Bilteins completely but it worn out my tires within days, I repeat, days not weeks or months.
My motor mounts couldn't take it anymore, I switched to stock springs only until my new coiloverkit arrived.

My front tires were in the metal, exposing the tiny metal wiring inside the rubber. The botton of my car was oily due to the oil leak from the shock absorbers.

Installing the spring to later uninstalling the springs is something I would never ever plan to do. The looks of the Evo being dropped is perhaps the only thing reasonable, in the long run the coiloverkit will preveal as a better choice.

Please be flexible with my critique and accept it as a friendly Evo member that is trying to help you. I know I perhaps overkilled the topic but I gave specific details on different mechanical component damage.

peace.

Did you get an alignment? Ive had many cars with just springs and never had a problem..strange. I dont take anyone's words personaly, but lets be honest, on this forum you need to filter responses fairly often.

what the hell do lowering springs have to do with motor mounts ? unless you are referring to the fact that some springs are more stiff then stock, but so are some coilovers as well... tires will wear unever if you dont bother to do an alignment afterward or have your camber adjusted if needed.... there is nothing wrong with lowering springs, there is plenty wrong with people who install them, dont do alignments/adjustments afterwards, its amazing, its almost like the same procedures follow installing coilovers....

either way this thread is about his rims... and changing the color... they look good, i'd go with a darker gold though

A set of very low aftermarket spring can ruin your motor mounts very rapidly if your shocks are bad. It would put a lot of stress on the suspension.

I cut the springs on my Eclipse and I also heated the springs prior to cutting them and I observe they worn out my motor mounts very fast. You see that all the time, you see many Honda and Acura drivers driving their cars to the ground, their cars bounce up and down while they normally drive down the road.

Neither I was right 12 years ago by cutting and heating the spring on a Eclipse nor I was right but not doing an alignment on my car after I installed the spring on my Evo 8 MR but either way just to let you know that in many cases they will cause premature motor mounts failure and overstress.

Enough with this topic for me, you guys go ahead and do the spring, I will just stay behing watching...

On the subject of springs...seriously...huh? People who sacrifice performance for looks are like women wearing high heels and limping around with blistered feet.

lol...so basically what you are saying is..... you warned this guy that lowering springs cause premature wear in tires, although you failed to get an alignment after lowering your viii and cutting your springs on the eclipse which is a big no no anyway... motor mounts wear from excessive vibration and engine jarring, such as launching your car or whatever else... i have seen countless honda guys bouncing around everywhere, both on coilovers and springs...... what makes the difference is the quality and amount of drop of the springs or coilovers. a lot of honda guys drop them on the ground which will kill any type of suspension product. if you'd a lowered your evo viii properly, and took the necessary steps afterward to complete the process correctly, your tire wear would have been the same as stock, your motor mounts wont go out any faster then stock and there would be nothing wrong.

apparently you are another daily race track driver ... there are i'd say guessing 75% of us who dont track our cars and have no need for a high end suspension upgrade, so in order to get the appearance we'd like, we use springs... looks great, inexpensive, and serve their purpose.... you can cause the same damaging effects springs can cause with coilovers when set to low, just like springs. coilovers are an extreme waste of money for people who dont use them in the manner they were designed for
