Mine's a 1990...almost 19 years old! All 1.6L and 1.8L were build with a cast iron bottom end and an aluminum head. Both had oil pressure fittings and oil return spots on the block. I've seen something about a factory Mazda turbo kit that was sold aftermarket for the cars but know now one who has it or much information on it. Starting 1999 they offered the Mazdaspeed version which was turbo charged w/RacingHart wheels, etc. Cars are horribly underpowered stock 1.6L about 90-100rwhp and 1.8L 110-115rwhp; seem to be consistant with a 10rwhp loss over a 10 year time. My 90 dynoed at 85 rwhp when bone stock.

89-93 (popup headlights) 1.6L DOHC Engine
94-98 (popup headlights) 1.8L DOHC Engine
99-05 (updated non popup headlights) 1.8L DOHC Engine (VVT)
06-Current (new body style completely) 2.0L DOHC Engine

I've obviously upgraded a few things but the block is bone stock and I plain to leave it that way. Greddy turbo kit I'm running consists of a Cast Iron Manifold, TD04 15G Turbo, Vortex FMU 10:1, a few pipes and hoses. Kit cost me $1000 new most sell for $1150-$1250 new and run 5psi stock. Uses stock pump, injectors and no intercooler. I didn't have it dynoed as that but did after I added a Timing Conroller, Intercooler, 1.8L Injectors, and a few other parts that don't matter for power and dynoed at 140rwhp so I picked up 55rwhp for about $1400 at 5psi. The block can handle about 15psi which is good for 250hp and about the same in torque. Doesn't seem like much but due to weight make the car pretty damn quick. 300rwhp+ in the car is pretty insane and the car can't really handle it just slides everywere!

We'll didn't want to give you my life story but hopefully you get something out of that. THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENTS!
