Rota has also been very popular with the WRX/STi crowd (I think that's why Subydude is dubbed SUBYdude). Rota's are known for their durability and low price. Whether to buy the real Volks at 3 grand a set vs. the Rota's at only 900, is a legitimate debate however it should not hijack this thread.
Anyway, can they make these in a Royal Black (i mean with polished/machined lip)?

I see where some of you guys are coming from on both ends. For those that thing Rota is just some fly-by-night company making ****ty wheels, I suggest you do your research. Everyone isentitled to thier opinion, however, after reading about the many types of stringent tests that Rota does to check the quality of the wheel I dont see any reason that those who are on a budget or just want a good set of wheels for the track can't get away with it. Just my $.02!
In Japan, a wheel manufacturer must pass JWL testing standards and have the wheel certified by the Japan VIA (similar to US DOT) before they can sell anything to Japanese market. If they don't pass, then cannot sell.
Made in the Phillipines/China/Thailand wheels are most likely NOT tested. That's why costs are extremely low because they don't have to pay for testing/certification and their workers probably get paid $5.00 per day. I'm not even sure if some of the high end wheels like Iforge/HRE are even tested.
The number one concern is safety. As cars get heavier and more horsepower, the need for stronger wheels are a must especially with light "racing" wheel designs. I guess thats why a stock Evo uses high quality manufacturers like Enkei (base models), BBS (MR model), and RalliArt (aftermarket made by RAYS).
The support of knockoff companies will weaken the aftermarket industry whether it is wheels/performance/suspension/etc. In the end, quality parts manufacturers will suffer and close shop due to lost sales. Then who will the knock-off companies copy? From each other? lol.
Many of you praise the knock-off wheel companies but do you also wear knock-off clothing?watches?shoes? Probably not.
For you viewing pleasure and education. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEq8C5ZIezY

No, that would still be an Evo, just with a different badge on it.
Rota's are not Volk wheels with a different stamp on it.
My point was that if all you care about is the look, then you can save a lot of money and buy a Lancer.
If you want all the good things about the Evo, then you understand the cost of those improvements.
If you appreciate all the good things that make a Volk wheel a Volk wheel you will pay the price, just like you paid the price for an accual Evo, not just something that LOOKS LIKE it.
Alright SubyDude, that's it, I'm done, I wont clutter up your thread anymore.
another newbie...I think all of his posts have been in this thread. As for the wheels, I used to have rota's back in the day and just sold a pair. nothin but good quality. as for the "knock off" factor who gives a schizzel. If they were patented they wouldn't be able to. For those who say it would cost more, what's another $500 on top of 3500. Those who would buy them would still buy them. Those who would not, would not!
Sorry SubyDude, last one I promise.

If an evo looked like a lancer I would never have even considered buying one. I'll take an original evo and 5 sets of knock off wheels so I am all set when I change my mind

I'm pretty sure the reason there is never legal action taken against any of these companies who make copies of parts is because the original companies don't actually copyright or have patents or anything for their products because that process is so expensive, and that expense would pass on to the customer and make these uber-jdm items that much more expensive.
What I do know is that Rotas are good, inexpensive wheels. I had them on my STi, and I'm rolling on them right now on my MR. And if I hit a pothole, I won't have to take out a second mortgage to replace a wheel.
