Shift knob removal for MR
there is a FREE tool you can use to take the MR knob off when everything else fails......I took off the intercooler coupling(the one next to the airbox) and put in on the knob with the clamps. That provided me the enough leverage/grip to take off that sucker.
BTW, there is a lock nut under the shift gate sticker

Was my MR the only one that had a hex screw inside the knob? I had to take off the sticker on top to get to the screw. Once that was off, it comes off easily. I'll see if I can take pics tonight to show.

Oh just an FYI there is a allen head stud on the inside of the MR knob....you have to take off the sticker and c/f piece then unscrew the allen head from the inside and then it just comes off......I used a very sharp pin to remove both the cover and the c/f piece.
You have to peel off the fake CF sticker on the top and then use an allen key to remove the nut. After that, lefty loosey and off it comes!
Oh yeah, some of them had Lock-Tite...some didn't...I take it they got lazy.
You need a special tool that only
has at the dealership
JK. It is just a simple thread so there shouldn't be any real issue. The only problem I have had is not being able to get it back on straight

I spent about 20 minutes trying a bunch of different tricks until I found one that worked...
Take one of those sticky pads that they sell to hold Cell Phones and prevent them from slipping (i.e. off the car dash). Use that like you would use a jar opener. It grips on the smooth surface of the shift knob very very well.
