Unhappy Shift knob removal for MR

OK.....I tried for about 30 mins yesterday and this bish won't come off.........OMG I read all the threads and it says you need the vice grips, but is there any other way??? I tried last night and I seriously put all my strength in and no budge at all......So yah out of all the things to overdesign...Mitsu picks the shiftknob

So does anyone else have some tips besides buying a tool for it??? I want to put my WORKS knob on....I thought this would be easy like every other car...but nope...it's like welded on ROFL...okay so not that bad but it sure feels like it

Nope, try again.

Everything I've heard about removing the 6-spd knob involves destroying it.

Not one of these threads again. Lefty loosey, righty tighty. Wrap a towel around the shift knob and use a pipe wrench.

I guess Evo IX shift knobs could be different, but the 6-speed knob on my 05 MR just screws off. No destruction involved.

yeah, i took mine off. Its fine. Not a scratch. Use a towel and fold it twice. Then with a
vice grip or anything you can get enough pressure with, turn. It will be hard to turn and will break lose. then its able to be turned with your hand.

No, it's probably not different. I just haven't ever tried it before, other than using my bare hand...

When i bought my 06 MR, they put the knob on for me. It just threaded on, so it should just thread right back off. Maybe someone put lock-tite on it.
