Carbon fiber hoods?

I'm looking to getting a carbonfiber hood and wanted to know which hoods had fitment issues and which fit fairly well. I also was looking for a hood that doesn't use hood pins to hold it down. I may be getting it painted a two tone from just over the headlights back to the windshield following the angle. So if anyone has had any experience with painting carbonfiber precautions would be great. Thanks in advance...

I don't care what kind it is. If it's CF or fiberglass, ALWAYS use pins!!!!

I have the seibon OEM C/F hood. Fitment is great.

With any aftermarket hood, you should get hood pins though.

Mine are coming within the next month aerocatch ftw!

I like the Kaminari hood, I saw that one somewhere on the boards but didn't know how the fitment was. How well does it stay down without the pins?

If a company replicates the latch receiver on the inside of the hood just like factory, you don't need pins unless the fitment is really messed up. Hood pins are there to fix two problems: low quality fitment and lack of correct latching due to non-factory design.

Hood pins were originally used back when stock cars had really poorly fitted/ loose factory hoods that could not stay put or keep from flopping around or causing drag at speeds the car was never meant to do.

Some people will say ‘always use hood pins’. I don’t know of any after market hood manufacturers that don’t say the same, but that’s just CYA. If I feel my hood is solid and the latch holds it tight, pass on the pins.

Those some people who say 'always use hood pins' have been around this scene long enough to hear his or her share of horror stories about hoods flying up on the highway. The CF is laid across a skeleton which has the latch attached to it. It has nothing at all to do with the latch not working.
Your car, do what you want...
