Mitsu paint.......sucks or not?
Mitsu paint.......sucks or not?
Hi there,
I wonder if there is something wrong with the EB paint of my 9, or is it all paint?
I've polished my car 4 times now in 6 months to get the swirls away, but after 2 or 3 weeks they are back again
And yes, i wax the car after i've polsihed it but the results stay the same.
Is there a sollution that keeps the swirls away? Maybe a special wax or something.
I now use Meguiars NXT Tech wax and/or Meguiars Gold Class Wax.Both of them are good waxes (used them on my precious car), but they seem to be unable to protect the Mitsu paint....
Grtz

Try maybe a better polishing compound or use a Porter Cable with an orange ccs pad . You might want to try a sealant over the polish which will protect your paint longer. Also NXT waxes aren't that great...they are typical retail store crap. Try something higher end like P21S, Poorboys, Menzerna, any of the higher end stuff that is fairly affordable. Mitsu paint aint that great but plenty on here have found ways to make it look pretty damn good.

But indeed, i was planning on buying the poorboys polishing collection (SSR2.5, SSR2.0,etc...) and use them with a PC, UDM or AEG excentrical machine.
Which wax do you recommend the most that will give maximum protection? Not something like the 10.000$ zymol please

Well I would reccomend Menzerna FMJ which is a sealant (technically synthetic wax). I would also top that with P21S carnauba wax or Pinnacle if you have the money. The sealant (synthetic wax) will last alot longer than carnauba waxes and give equivalent shine...but if topped with carnauba will give the best results. Some of meguiars stuff is alright but definately not in the league of Klasse, Menzerna, Poorboys, P21S, etc. Also poorboys polishing kit is pretty good, but you can also read on autopia.org about some others if you want.

Your washing and drying regimen is the reason for the swirls. The paint is not of the greatest quality (very soft), but Honda's have the same deal. Use higher quality sheepskin mitts, a more lubricitious soap, and dry GENTLY with waffle weave microfibers.
Technically Mitsu paint is "good". The paint on the my old 03 looks as shiny as when it came off the showroom floor. And it's 4 years old, and 80K miles on it. It has minor swirls since I don't polish it anymore, it has a new owner. But I see it a few times a week, sold to GF's brother.
The problem is the thread poster is using oil based "filler" products. You are using a product that "hides" the swirls. It doesn't get rid of them. It may get rid of a portion of them, but not all. To detail a car correctly you need to a multiple step process. It has nothing to do with the wax you buy, or how you apply it. Your problem lies elsehwere. You need to use a product with no fillers. Like Menzerna, sure they maybe more for rotary polishers, but I have used them for years with a Porter Cable with great results.
And it sounds like your washing technique sounds a little off. At the very least, wash a panel and then blast the mitt with the hose. And or use the 2 bucket method. Sure it may seem like a lot of work, but easier than polishing your car over and over right.
And BTW, Meguiar's is no where near the best game in town. They are the best over the counter products. But the internet has brought out a bunch of well known companies. As far as quality goes, Menzerna and Optimum are at the top of the game. Menzerna is a great company specializing in OEM finishes. Their products are used for final polish after the paint has cured. And Optimum was started by a former chemist for DuPont automotive finishes. So he knows a thing about clearcoat, and Ceramic Clearcoat that not a lot of people know about yet.
Can I ask how you have drawn this conclusion?

i use poorboys products and they work great. for wash, meguires gold class is good too. very sudsy to lubricate so it traps dirt instead of you rubbing it into the paint. i used to think all washes were equal till i used gold class.
