DIY body Work?
DIY body Work?
There doesn't seem to be a place to put this thread aside from in here, but i want to know if anyone does their own body work. I got a set of charespeed wide front fenders and i recently got a new compressor. I want to paint and blend them into the rest of the car my self. I've never done any body work and i know I'm being pretty ambitious, but any input would be appreciated. What tools and equipment do i need and does anyone have any tips? Is it worth it?
Body work
I would say its not worth it. You would have to buy a ok HVLP spray gun =$200 or more. + primer and sealer and base and clear and reducers and hardener = aprox =150 then you would still have to do all the ness prep work on the fenders and hood and doors to blend correctly . Then you would still have to color sand and buff. this would take a long time and if its your first time it prob would not be a good idea to try this on your car.
dont do it,it just going to look like a hack job. im a painter and its more then what you think, if you dont mix the primer, sealer, base or clear right it will react and youll get fish eyes or something even worse.you also have to lurn how to wet sand the primer check your color vareants lurn how to back tape, wet sand and buff and so on.its going to take alot of gun time till you can lurn to blend colors. i use sata spray guns and there like 500 or more a gun you will need a gun for blends a gun for color a gun for clear and your primer gun so it could get to be a lot of money.
