Road America: Glowing brakes!
#50
I think I just got some new advertising shots! Those pictures are so cool, it's not easy to get clear good shots of brakes in action, thanks! Ryan is the textbook case of how to run brakes on a track car.
Step-up and buy a dedicated set of front rotors and pads. Forget about pad transfer issues going from street to race pads and watch your wear rates go down. He has alot of track time on those and they are just now ready to be replaced, pads are still at 30-40%. When you can put just one transfer layer down on the rotor they will be happier and reward you with longer life, better performance. Multiple pad compounds can interact funny and accelerate wear, cause judder etc.
The ST-43 pads are the best for cars like this, they don't need near as much heat to start working, are easier to bed in, and are very easy on the rotors. They'll take a ton a abuse and heat without fade or judder. The ST-41 is more aggressive at the expense of wear. They would never even get up to temp at a track like Willow Springs. In a 3500+lb car with 500+hp and lots of tire is where they shine. It's true, they grip like crazy but I personally feel in the Evo they are harder to live with than the ST-43.
Ryan uses Girodisc fronts, slotted one piece rears, Raybestos ST-43, AMS duct cooling kit, Girodisc Titanium heat shields, and Motul RBF600. Contact us if you want to replicate it. Great use of the product Ryan! Thanks for the props.
