HID's?

My wife really wants hids in the '05 evo. (I wouldn't mind having them either...) I started reading about the aftermarket kits available and the main thing that concerns me is the possibility of blinding other drivers. I live in jersey and the cops are crazy so there's a possibility of getting pulled over if they are too bright. Should I just save money until I can buy the whole hid headlight assembly or are the after market kits really that bad?

Yeah unfortunately the 04 and up evos did not come with hids unless you got the mr or ssl.

How about this... what if I bought an after market hid kit and then later decided to buy MR headlight housings. would I be able to apply the hid kit to the MR housing??

Just get the 04 SSL lights somewhere and slap them in. I love mine, because they adjust heights.

most factory HID kits are around 4300K which is very white. If you want a little blue tint to it, go for 6000k. As long as you can make it look factory, you should be ok. Some people go for 6500k or higher kits, those will look full blue or purple. You obviously have an aftermarket kit in those situations. Cops will pull you over in a heartbeat around here for those.

Projector headlights have a nice sharp cutoff. Doubt you would even have to adjust them after you put the HID kit in. Those other clowns using reflective housing headlamps and throwing HIDs on there are the ones blinding people.

You won't blind anyone if you point the projectors towards the ground more...

Not being familiar with your car I'm assuming you have reflectors and not projectors, correct? I usually go 6000K as the 4xxx range have been really bright. If you have projectors then there really shouldn't be much of an issue.

I just got some 6000K HIDs off of ebay for my truck (little S-10) and I really like them so far. They were $85 shipped, which I couldn't believe. I haven't done aftermarket HIDs in a while as our vehicles have come with them lately - they used to be $300 and up. I have yet to get flashed and they are a lot brighter than the crap stock halogens.

I am going to get some 3500Ks for my Evo fog lights in the next week or so. Let me know if you have any questions.

1. All 2004 Evos except the RS have HIDs

2. Color temperature has nothing to do with brightness or bliding other drivers.

3. All Evo 8s and 9s have projector headlights for the low beam.

The aftermarket kits will save you lots of money...I think you'll be okay, with regards to blinding other drivers with a re-based HID kit.

I run HID foglights (which are reflector housings) on my 04 and they are insanely bright...they do have the tendency to overwhelm people so i typically keep them off...with the projectors, I think you'll be OK.

Do the stock halogens on the 05/06 non-ssl/MR/se have a cutoff point like the HIDs do?

I don't think they will fit. The MR housings will be designed for factory HID bulbs (d2s), while the aftermarket kit for the '05 stock housings will be 9005/9006 style.

I live in NJ and have aftermarket HID's. From what I can tell it doesnt blind people and the lights look awesome. A nice deep blue, 6000k is ideal temp, I got my kit from import image for about 300. My left ballast went out after 2 months, he replaced it no questions asked, 1 year warranty.

Projectors are stock even on the non-hids vehicles.
