has anyone tested the diff between 17's and 18's also i remember people saying that the advan's (which fit 17's) were the best tire for the evo and using other tires like po3's made the car handle worse i could be wrong but thats what i remem

wow, you missed this whole thread didnt you? Performance, smaller light wheels... if we were into looks primarily we'd be driving slow 350Z's or S2000's....with 20's

a 19" wheel would affect the handling of the car. in many ways it might improve but there are also downsides to everything. tires also make a big improvement. if you buy some real nice wheels and the cheapest tires you can just so you can ride around on them you have screwed yourself. 18's are more than enough the width is one of the biggest factors which you cannot go any bigger and i believe an 8" width i might be wrong but i think that is all that will fit without modification or scrubbing. o yea tires for 19's are more expensive than 20's. thought you might like to know. stick with 18's

Unsprung weight, the less the better.
The heavier(larger wheel) takes more to turn it. Thus affecting performance in a straight line.
The more unsprung weight, the less responsive the car is to steering input, etc. The car will handle better the less weight that is at each wheel. Not to mention it is good for longevity of the suspension components.

what the moderator said is true about the weight. which is the reason why i have 15" maglites on my car. the looks arent all that great but there is actually a major difference from the 17"s i had on the car before. the only weigh 11.9lbs each. which is another reason why they cost so damn much. but anyway i leave for korea tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to be off topic:

**** yo i'm gonna put 20" spinners on my ride, and for faster excelleration off da line i'm gonna have my homie jump out at the light and spin them...

personally i like the 17's and i'm gonna stay stock, i might go lighter but i like the look of 17's, 19's are too big, and weigh to much....so no thank you, but again this is an issue of personal preference.

The engineer guy at SCC (don't remember his name) stated that smaller wheel diameters are always preferable performance-wise, and the tradeoff is that at the same time they need to be large enough to clear your brake system. Look at F1 cars, which are pretty much as high-performance as it gets. They run very small diameter wheels. Don't drive an Evo, drive a Navigator.

Plus you'll end up losing money for having to replace the rim every month from bending it.

i personally think 18z are the best.... wtf would u want 19z that would b dumb... but ne wayz... weight is not always the issue bcuz there are 19 in wheels that weight less than our stock wheels.... and almost every 18 in rim is lighter than our stock 17z..

brother your ghetto . why dont you sell your evo and buy a lexus or a bmw and put the 30inch dubs on it .. for the true at heart racer. you go with what works best. if your going to keep the evo buy a intercooler or something . better yet save the money . when i had my alltrac i did the same stupid move by putting bigger rims . and guess what i was breaking rims left and right. good luck kid

personally I think it looks plain stupid, small cars with 18's and 19's. If you bought your evo for performance reasons, stick with 17", if you wanna look stupid get 24", yeah they make then now in 24's
hell, they even make 26" inch rims...i think yakima makes a roof rack...now anyone can prolly fit and mount one 26" on it..bling bling...rofl...j/k
