Evo 8- sticky steering wheel

I have a 03 evo 8, the leather on the steering wheel will literally sitck to your hand and rubs off when it is really hot or cold. is this a common problem with the wheel or am I stuck buying a new wheel......I was wanting to get it wrapped in black alcantara to match the seats any info or advice?

uhh dont mean to be an *** but why not try cleaning it with some armor all wipes cleaner, or some sorta cleaner that wont effect the leather.

yes the leather actually comes off of the wheel from the 11-1 o'clock postion.
is the "sticky" from the leather just deteriorating?
I have cleaned it a few times but when its really cold or really warm it comes off and leaves your hands sticky with little bits of leather as well

You need to stop getting funky with the steering wheel

Sorry, but someone had to say it

I had the same thing happen to my old DD, leather cleaner should help and maybe a little leather restorer if needed. But be careful, it may leave the steering wheel really slick for a while.

Sounds like an excuse to get a new steering wheel. I suggest a nardi wheel... or like you said just re wrap it in alcantara. Would look gorgeous.

ive had the same issue wth my wheel in the past. on hot days my hands would have black stuff from the wheel, and even what looked like little bits of the leather actually coming off. i just keep up on it with leather cleaner and conditioner. do it before you park the car for the night so it has plenty of time to dry. and i know its weird, but maybe switch up your hand position once in a while so you arent wearing down the same spot. i know when im in trafffic now, i just hold the bottom of the wheel. seems to work

if u want a cheap solution id suggest wrapping it in synthetic suede (alcantara), u can buy a square yard of it and re wrap it easily and it will look better and feel better then the original leather
