Late Chicago Ice Storm Pics
Actually an intercooler that is completely trapped behind an ice / snow layer is not efficient at all. It's like the igloo effect. I remember someone posting a thread about this back in the winter of 2003 when they first saw it happen to them firsthand.
PS: The weather up here isn't bad at all. Parking lots and 4 lane wide roads are lots of fun when there's 2-6 inches of snow and ice on the ground.

Try a few cups of warm water around the door seal and handle next time, I've seen alot of bad things happen when people try to open frozen doors
