Dash Pcs. Painted GG
Dash Pcs. Painted GG
My friend at Chris's Collision in West Orange just finished painting my dash trim pieces in GG just like the car.
Tomorrow morning they'll install them; afterwards I'll update this post.

there not sanded or buffed yet.
what you guys think?
We'll my friend was busy this morning to finish them, so I took all the pieces home and started sanding them myself. I cut the sand paper in 1"x2" squares and started slowly sanding, actually im not really pushing its more like your feeling the paint with the sandpaper underneath your fingers, you can actually feel any imperfections with this sand paper. (hey 3M how about a sponsorship? LOL)
next Saturday they'll get buffed and installed, here are some more pics.

this is the sand paper that was used, its made for dry sanding, I like dry sanding because you can see what your sanding, when wet you cant see till it's to late.

your looking to remove all the dried dust particles and any fish eyes , you want a nice smooth looking finish.

almost finished sanding the radio surround piece, in the tight areas just use the corner of the sand paper, with little or no pressure.

after almost 4 hours their just about finished, the light and dark spots are the dust residue that's not cleaned off yet.
they still need to be buffed .

here's what it should look like when the sanding is finished, the whole piece should be uniform in finish, when it get's polished it should have a nice even wet look without any ripples, or waves. her name is Daisy

Almost looks like the stock color after its sanded in this pic

i assume if I had to pay for this and they charge around $80.00 hour, it took me 4 hours to sand taking my time, a body shop would not take this long, and the finish wont be this good unless you pay for it, plus painting and they still need to be buffed and reinstalled, don’t forget the removal its got to cost at least 4-500 dollars???
today is 3-20-08-
i just got the radio surround back today, it looks and feels f-ing great.
i tried some diffrent shots with my treo 700p

walk by shot

parked in garage

here you can sort of see the purple

Today I finished all the pieces
this was used for the first buff

just dot it all over

start buffing with light pressure, dont stay in one spot to long or it will burn the paint

after compound you start the glaze just place it all over

this is the glaze that was used, again 3M (no they never called me)

so here they are what everyone is waiting for, installed pics.
a little dusty but overall they look Fantastic

that looks like it came out great. i was debating on painting my radio/HVAC surrond and the piece around the shifter. update us ASAP. i also have a GG, so this will work out perfectly for me to see what it will look like
I painted the center raido/climate control piece flat black, at first I thought it was nice b/c i saw it in JDM EVO RS but then it looks cheap to me after a while, I want to do something gray or silver like stock's and GG is another option for me too.
