Arrow HIDs

Anyone notice that as soon as they turn on their HIDs that the lights are kind of bluish, but a few seconds later the HIDs become more of a white light. Why is that?

On some of the German cars with HIDs the lights are more of a bluish color, but on the Evos they turn white a few seconds after being turned on. Any ideas?

hids are like that. when you first turn them on, they'll be a certain color but after they power up, they'll be white or whatever color the bulbs are. I have 7000K kit on my slk and when i turn them on, they're purple. Then they turn white. Then they turn purplish white. And the whole color thing with the german cars is just that they're using a different kelvin. Some might like it blueish white and some might like it purplelish white..

How easy or difficult/costly would it be to change the Evo HIDs Kelvin or whatever to make more of a bluish or purplish color? Sort of like the Audis or MB S Class?

why...?

when someone sees you coming at any kind of angle they'll see all the blueish \ purpleish hues anyhow... don't you see them off to the sides of the road...?

To be honest, I have never checked out how my lights look at night from the outside of the car. I will check tonight. I wasn't aware the Evo lights had any blue/purple hues in them that were noticeable from the outside.....

I'm not so sure of that, check out this thread.

The guy's page I referred to there has since been removed, but he seems to think that ALL the OEM's use either one of two kits, both with similar kelvin rating, and that it is the optics that produce the color effect.

It seems to boil down to what angle you are veiwing the lights from and the fact they seem to fluctuate when the car goes over a bump. Whatch a Lexus or Acura hit a dip in the road and all kinds of colors come out, but at the core the light appears white like your Evo.

just look off to objects on the side of the raod as you come up on them... you'll see a blue / purple halo effect all over them... kinda cool looking...

I like the Halo effect. BTW, they are a bluish color initially because as the filament heats up it changes the light spectrum. All HIDs do it. My Acura did it.
