the bottom line is there are too many variable to make a general decision. As for as performance goes you have to find the rotational inertia for a tire and wheel combo. This is the only thing the engine cares about. You can have 2 wheels weight the same but b/c ther mass is located in a different positon in relation to the center it can take a different torque to accelerate them the same. the farther the mass is from the center the harder it is to spin them up. As far as unsrung weight goes the only factors there are the total mass of wheel and tire.

The EVO will grow if you mod it.

The EVO will grow if you mod it. Meaning, it will eventually go faster after each mod. This in turn, will eventually downgrade or make your brakes less usefull because of the add power. Now, if you're thinking ahead about tuning your car to meet your goal of say 400-600 WHP...then I would have to say you MUST upgrade your brakes later on down the road. BUT before you do that, you have to get bigger rims and tires to make room for the BIGGER BRAKE SYSTEM. With me, I want a monster track car with lots of power. Like they say, you can make your car REALLY fast even in 17 and 18....but can you make it STOP FAST as well? I'm going with 18's.

Well I think that's the point of a forum Otherwise we'd just be in a chat room asking repetitive questions like "where da chicks at".

Hmmmmm...yeah you are right, let's always start a new thread on the same topic, and while we are at it let's just go ahead and delete the old posts since they are old

The point of having a forum instead of a chat room is that information is archived and kept available for everyone's benefit. It might start with one person's problem/question, but sooner or later it will more than likely become another person's problem/question. I personally hate seeing 500 threads with the same question when I'm doing a search, but I guess you love weeding through repetitive duplicate threads. If you hadn't noticed, if a topic has a lot of threads it ends up being merged anyway.

This thread is not about one person buying rims, it is specifically which size is better, 17" or 18".

BTW as soon as you complained about it being old, you gave it a bump

1. so why do you think the majority of people on this website and others , start new threads about the same topic? i will give you one reason - to answer their specific question on a subject. not having to dig through another thread to find the answer they can get quciker by posting new.

2. i personally hate digging through one thread that has 500 posts to it to find a topic that was lost somewhere in the middle.

3. the new title to this thread should be "which size was better for the year 2003". i guess you can find yesterdays news by the search button

I don't want to start a p-i-s-s-i-n-g contest because people reading this will just waste their time. We obviously differ in opinions so whatever floats your boat. Point I was trying to make is this topic is 17" or 18" wheels. The dynamics of 17" or 18" wheels aren't going to change drastically enough from 2003 to 2004 to 2005 to probably 2015 to start a new thread with the same topic...and as long as a thread stays on topic (which obviously this isn't anymore) then there is no reason to start a new one.

Who cares what size they are as long as they are lightweight!!!!

The reason people get 17's is this:

1) Generally cheaper
2) Lighter for the money

18's look better there's no doubt. If you can find 18s that are light and a price you can handle, get them!

What is lightweight? Well, the stockers are 21 lbs. Want to feel a difference? Don't get wheels heavier than 16 lbs.

Good luck finding 18's under 16 lbs. There are plenty of 17's that light. You can find 18's that light but get ready to pay.

So what wheels do you get? The ones that balance price, weight, and looks for YOU!!
