Questions: Rexpeed CF Splitter for 9
Hello everyone,
Over the weekend I installed a Beatrush Undertray Panel and Rexpeed CF Splitter on my IX.
I have some questions concerning the splitter install.
First, two sets of screws were provide with the splitter. One set are a self tapping screw type, while the other is a philips head bolt w/nuts + washers.
My question is which do I use, and in which places? I was able to completely go without the bolts and nuts (except for one, but i'll get to that in a sec.) and just use the self tapping screws and the smaller, yet fatter OE gold screws. Has anyone else installed this splitter without using the bolts and nuts? The problem I found with using the self tapping screws is that about 20 % of the holes i attempted to use were too large. In fact, one pre drilled hole was so large I was able to successfully use the philips head bolt in its place, and WITHOUT the need for the bolt or washer. I am skeptical of the performance of the self tapping screw and would like to upgrade to sopme beefier units, has anyone used larger bolts on the EVO 9 splitter?
Second, fitment is great until you get to the sides, ends, of the splitter. The ends in front of the front wheels have no pre- drilled holes that match up to the stock holes on the bumper. Right now, the very ends of my splitter are held onto the bumper via NOTHING. This is where fitment goes to crap, btw. So I assume that I need something to make the splitter form a tighter fit to the bumper on the ends.
Now can i drill larger holes to accept the bolts? Will I harm the splitter? Has anyone had this problem?
Considering I have my own lift in my garage at home, I found the need to remove the bumper unfounded. However, if I do need to drill two holes, one on each side for the end of the splitter, I might consider removing the bumper. Then again, since the bumper is on the car now, I could just mark the spot where to drill, remove the splitter and drill my holes and reinstall the splitter without having to remove the bumper.
I have only this forum for guidance. No instructions were included with my splitter.
I need some advice. Please let me know your opinions and suggestions.
Thanks
SHIFTT
Also: if anyone is interested I am considering just selling the splitter or will accpet trade for SE lip. PM any questions.
