I couldve sworn it was the evo 3 chassis. The evo 5 is much different. Actually it's exactly the same chassis. That's why all the evo3 suspension parts bolt right up. You have a hell of a conversion on your hands.

Do they make the S40 in AWD?

Yes you are correct. The suspention is shared with evo 1-3. but I need evo 4-9 drivetrain for correct orientation.

also late model 2004.5+ S40/V50 are avalibe AWD but are based on the Mazda 3 chassis. early model S40/V40 where FWD only and shares mirage chassis. No Volvo S40/V40 (phase1,2) came avalibe with a manual trans in the us.

sorry for the thread-jack.

Wow...
This build has been simply amazing. Great work! And you have amazing dedication!

Ive been playing with the idea of attempting a similar swap except on a 2 door mirage. Maybe someday. Right now my focus is on building a 4g69/4g63 exo IX engine. Then I'll find something to put it in!

But amazing work! I just went from page 1 up to here and its been great! I cannot wait to see your finished product!

Keep it up!

I literally joined this forum to tell you how much of a damn-great job you've done. I originally saw Archies thread about a month ago, after I was searching for performance options in my newly "stolen" (picked it up for $500, 165k miles driven by an older lady commuting back and forth to work. She bought it with 15 miles on the clock.) 2001 Mirage 1.8L Coupe. I was really considering making my Coupe into a clone Evo V. But now that I see the legitimate Evos more and more, I really just want a 4-door.
I'm stuck between trying to trade my Coupe for a Sedan, or just converting my coupe to look like an evo until I get the sedan. Then I can just swap all parts over.
I really can't do much as I an using the car to commute 65 miles/day to and from Wyotech in Sacramento.
I have already changed the intake and exhaust system on the stock 1.8L, probably gained 20 hp or less. Lol

very nice project.

Early this morning, I had a dream I went online to see if this tread was updated, and BC actually killed this thread with some final photos of his Evo. It was Scotia White, and it looked nice. He had some before/after photos, also showing the Evo in partial black, such as an earlier, but very recent photo in this thread.

Now, I'm wondering if BC will have it painted white....
